New Golf Course in Torremolinos

Last Wednesday the Mayor of Torremolinos, Mr. Pedro Fernández Montes and professional golf player from Malaga Mr. Miguel Angel Jiménez, inaugurated the first golf course in Torremolinos.

One of the most memorable moments of the inauguration was when Miguel Angel Jiménez, after walking the course with the mayor of Torremolinos, gave the first drive on the driving range, although he is still on crutches recovering from a skiing accident in Sierra Nevada.

This 9 hole “pitch & putt” course located in the area of La Colina will occupy an area of 30.000m2 for the golf course and 16.000m2 for the driving range and club house and runs parallel to the railway line linking Malaga to Fuengirola.

The Jewel in the Crown is the 7th hole.  This par 3 of 130 meters from the tee to the green is an exact replica of the 12th hole of the legendary Augusta golf course.  This hole has been has been affectionately named “Angustias” by the locals, which sounds similar and in Spanish means “anguishes”.

Another hole that won’t be forgotten by those who play in the new golf course in Torremolinos is the 4th hole, which has a green inspired in the 17th hole of Sawgrass, home to the PGA Tour headquarters, known simply as the "Island Green", although it is technically a peninsula.  Miguel Angel Jiménez is one of only six players in the world who have done a hole in one in this hole.

The golf course has been designed by Miguel Angel Jiménez and it will be run by a company owned him. The residents of Torremolinos will have a discount of up to 30% on the golf course to promote the sport with the local community.
