La Cala de Mijas

La Cala de Mijas (Mijas Bay), known locally as La Cala is a resort located between Fuengirola and Marbella and it belongs to the municipality of Mijas.

La Cala was originally an agricultural and fishing village which opened its doors to tourism in the 1960s, as most of the resorts on the Western Costa del Sol.

Today tourism is the most important industry in this area. In spite of this, and of the fact that it has become quite an international area, the town has managed to retain its character and the charm of a relatively small Andalucian fishing village, while other areas of the coast developed rapidly.

In La Cala you have everything you need for day to day living, including banks, bars, beauty salons, doctors, pharmacies, local and international restaurants, as well as supermarkets. On Wednesday mornings you will find an excellent open air market just outside La Cala, where products are sold by local farmers and craftsmen.

The long beaches of this area are well cared for, clean and its sand is renowned for being soft and golden. There are a few delightful chiringuitos (beach bars), where one can cool off after a long day at the beach.

Whether you are looking for a holiday home or a permanent residence, La Cala is a fantastic destination with excellent amenities. The village is located minutes away from one of the best golf courses in the area.

Whether you are thinking of purchasing a discounted new development or a bargain resale property, Sur Estates, has the best properties for sale in the Costa del Sol's La Cala de Mijas including in nearby areas and developments like El Chaparral, La Cala Hills and La Cala Golf.
