Mijas is one of the most important resorts on the Western Costa del Sol. It stretches from the hills of Sierra de Mijas mountain range to the sea and is divided into three distinct areas: Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and Mijas Costa.

The origins of Mijas Pueblo have Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman and Moorish roots, like most of the Costa del Sol and it sits at some 430 metres above sea level. The village has the typical charm of the Andalucian white washed villages, with its narrow cobbled streets and white washed buildings perched high on the mountainside with spectacular views towards the Mediterranean below.

In the village you will find a wide selection of restaurants offering popular local dishes, many of which consist of warm and cold soups. There is also a nice selection of craft shops offering fantastic hand-made linen and wicker items, pottery and paintings made by local and international artists.

Mijas Pueblo has become a very popular tourist attraction, despite of this; it has somehow managed to retain much of its traditional Andalusian way of life. A residential development located just a few minutes away from Mijas Pueblo is the peaceful Valtocado.

Another area of Mijas is Las Lagunas which sits below the Pueblo, close to Fuengirola centre. Las Lagunas has become a modern, large commercial area with some local industry.

Mijas Costa, which also belongs to the municipality of Mijas, is a more modern built up area. In this stretch of just 12 kilometres, you will find the developments of El Chaparral, La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol, Miraflores and Sitio de Calahonda, all sitting by the Mediterranean.

In this area there are several top quality sport facilities. From the excitement of the Mijas Hippodrome, to the biggest golf resort in Spain, La Cala Resort which has three 18-hole golf courses and a David Leadbetter Golf Academy.

Mijas is a superb choice for either holiday or full time living. It caters all tastes and budgets.

Sur Estates has a wide selection of fantastic properties for sale in Mijas. From a Townhouse sitting in the tranquil village of Mijas Pueblo with fantastic sea views, to villas or building plots with uninterrupted views in Valtocaro. From a holiday apartment in one of the many golf complexes like La Cala Resort and Mijas Golf, to areas like La Sierrezuela and El Coto and further down to where one can find frontline beach apartments in Mijas Costa.
