Solmarina, the First Nautical Week on the Costa del Sol!

The delegate for the Promotion of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Jose Sanchez, announced today that it is expected that over 300 boats attend the activities organized in the marinas of this part of the coastline on the occasion of the celebration of 'Solmarina, the First Nautical Week on the Costa del Sol'.

"Apart from these vessels, we expect the participation of more than 1,000 people and crew on the various championships, regattas, conferences or scuba diving baptisms planned for these days," remarked Sanchez in the Solmarina presentation, along with the delegate of Hacienda, Marina Segovia. The event started on Saturday April 14 and concludes on day 21.

Thus, Sanchez has detailed a planned program for the next seven days "with activities of all kinds and for all audiences" and that will culminate on Saturday 21 with the presentation of trophies and gifts for the winners of the various activities, with an act that will take place in Estepona Yacht Club, home of the first edition of Solmarina.

Responsible for promotion of the various municipalities has stressed the importance of this event, "focused on making the Costa del Sol, one of the leading nautical spots in the Mediterranean, because we believe there is more than enough strength to do so."

In this regard, he recalled that in the Malaga coast is concentrated 60 percent of the capacity of the marinas of Andalusia, because the coast of Málaga, from Caleta de Vélez to Manilva, brings together most of the marinas of Andalusia.

A total of 3,526 moorings in just over 100 kilometers of coastline, said Sanchez and in  Malaga where there are 77 companies selling nautical crafts "is the leading province in Andalusia, followed distantly by Cadiz with 48 companies, Almeria and Huelva with 30 and 25".

"These are factors that make us believe that this event will be a great success and will have a great impact," said the delegate for the Promotion of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, who also added that the Costa del Sol "has the elements necessary to also be the coast of nautical sports".

Racing, racing jet skis and diving baptisms:

Solmarina began with a day of fishing in the marinas of the different municipalities. All participating yachts left their home ports to the usual fishing areas under competition rules and a common schedule. At the same time, in the Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena there was a concentration of jet skis that navigated most of the coast up to the Yacht Club of Estepona.

In Marbella was held the Monotype Platu Beneteau 25 Regatta, organized by the Club Marítimo de Marbella, presented by Sanchez and Segovia and the president of that club, Mark Junquito. The first day concluded with the celebration of scuba diving baptisms.

Solmarina resumes its activity today with the holding of exhibitions of Paddle-surfing and kite-surfing.  These activities, Sanchez pointed out, "are having more followers on our coast as time passes, so you are making an effort to enable specific areas to practice these sports”.

On Friday 20, Estepona Yacht Club will host a lecture by the expert in the Arctic Circle Francisco Acedo, and another lecture is planned to be given by the President of Cousteau Foundation Society and expert on sea, Mr. Pierre-Yves Cousteau.

On Saturday 21st, before the awards and trophies are presented, a sailing day is programmed, there will also be a conference and workshop organized by the captain of the boat Noalex, Bernardo Niz, dedicated to charter fishing, and the IV Test II League Championship of cruises Interclub Strait.
