The difference between decorating and home staging

The difference between decorating and home staging:

Many people think of decorating and home staging is the same, but there are many differences between the two. The bottom line is that decorating is to "dress" a house according to the personal taste of its owners, while the home staging is performed to facelift and to prepare the house to be liked by as many people as possible in order to improve the chances of making a sale.

As indicated by Susana Garcia-Moya, Director of Beautiful Homes, is evident that there are commonalities between the two actions because what is sought is to improve the appearance of the dwelling.   When a person decorates, they seek to renew and improve the aesthetics, feel and functionality with maximum comfort for its owners.  When a person decides to carry on home staging is to sell or rent the home in the shortest time possible and at the best price.

The main differences are:

A decoration project is made according to personal taste and specific to an individual, while the home staging is to show an ideal lifestyle, magazine-like look in order to attract as many people as possible.

When owners are decorating they add personal touches, souvenirs or objects that personalize a space.  When home staging, one takes the personal touch away from the home and creates a neutralized environment for anyone to imagine living in it.  A decorator seeks functionality and convenience of everyday life, but when we perform an action to sell a house, we seek to create spaces that highlight the features and architecture of the property.

When renewing, usually, one changes much of the decoration including furniture, finishes, fabrics and accessories, but with the home staging one attempts to exploit all the existing items as far as possible and what is renewed is mainly accessories.

When decorating, we tend to use personal colours and styles, but with the home staging one tends to use neutral tones, colours and styles not which tend to be more classical.
When decorating, pictures are great for personalizing your space, while if we are home staging and want a client to feel at home when they are in the living room, for instance, pictures are the first to be removed.

There are no limits in size, colour or material for decoration, while on home staging one tends to use fewer and smaller furniture.  One wants to sell their house, not your furniture.
Along with the furniture and decoration, one tries to purchase units that go accordingly even if they have to pay a little extra, but in the home staging are fewer pieces are chosen and one tries to spend as little as possible.

When decorating, the television is part of many environments because it is an indispensable part of many homes, but when looking to sell a home, the television can be a distraction to potential buyers, so it is important to try to hide it or make it go unnoticed.
Decorating does not give you any extra points when selling your home (with some exceptions in which your tastes matches those of a prospective buyer), but home staging, in every little detail has a value for the prospective buyer.
