The harvest festival of Manilva

We are already in the first weekend of September and the party begins today at the harvest festival of Manilva.  The celebrations will include the following:

Saturday:

In this land of great wine tradition, the party starts at 7 tonight with a “rociera mass” celebration sung by the parish choir of St. Anne.

Then a procession will take place.  Here the Virgin of Our Lady of Sorrows is accompanied by young people dressed in traditional clothes and prayers asking for protection for the land where the vineyards are located will take place.

Upon completion of the procession, tradition dictates, there will be a competition organized by the town hall where the largest clusters of vintage will be chosen, the winners will be offered to the Virgin.

On Saturday evening the event culminates with the performance of two bands.

Sunday:

The party starts at 12:00 with musical performances. Throughout the day visitors may taste the muscatel grapes and the well-known Manilva wine. At 5 pm parade is planned.

The last activity, which consists of the first pressing of the grapes to obtain the first wine, will be held at 7:00pm. Those carrying out this ritual know all the secrets to the traditional production that has little to do with current extraction methods.

To be part of this event must visit Calle Mar in Manilva, where not only can see the treads of the grape, but you can try the first wine of the vintage, as the harvest festival coincides with the end of the grape harvest.
