Torremolinos is possibly one of the most famous Costa del Sol towns as it was the first one to be developed for tourism in the early 1950s.
Originally a fishing village, as were most towns on the Costa del Sol, Torremolinos is now a large resort, with many high-rise hotels and apartment blocks.
There are four different areas in the town, one which was the first to be developed, Torremolinos centre; and the more attractive areas which are also considered more traditional, known as El Calvario, El Bajondillo and La Carihuela.
Its beautiful promenade runs from Playamar through Torremolinos, continuing as far as Benalmadena Marina. This area is famous for its seafront seafood restaurants, which serve the famous pescaíto frito (fried fish), espetos de sardinas (sardines cooked on the barbeque) and its paellas.
Torremolinos is also famous for its weather. Its microclimate offers over 320 days of sunshine per year and an average temperature of 22°C.
Torremolinos is not exactly the ideal destination for families seeking peace and tranquillity. This resort is very lively, especially during the summer months, with a large hotel and leisure infrastructure, including bars, restaurants and above all a vibrant nightlife.
Sur Estates has a great selection of bargain and distressed resale properties including frontline beach apartments, penthouses, townhouses and villas in Torremolinos in areas like La Carihuela and Playamar.
